Hey everyone,
I’ve been enjoying the summers in Arkansas great outdoors and thought I’d post a question for my fellow razorbacks. I will be staying at a cabin on BeaverlakeĀ for a couple of weeks in September and have not fished it before so I could use some advise. I’ll be using a 5w fly rod with floating line but need a bit of guidance for the best way to catch a lake trout. I have chest waders so I can wade, but what would be extremely helpful is to know what type of structures to keep an eye out for? Also, what flies I should be using in September to try and catch some of the trout. I will also be fishing below the dam if that helps with ancillary advice or flies.

Hello all, and nice to see an Arkansas blog! My family I are heading to the White River in mid September to do some camping and trout fishing. I am gearing up and needed know what size line would be needed and definitely need a good technique for that time of year? We will not be fly fishing and know that trout spook easily there. I was/ am thinking possibly a 4lb test is best but I am open for suggestions? Could any fellow Arkansans want to tip another angler on what to use and not?
We will not be hiring a guide
Terry, in Little Rock.

Wet flies and dry flies? Another Newbie here to ask a question abut fly fishing. I am going to give fly fishing a go and try my luck at some trout fishing this summer. The standard I know is to use a fly & bobber. If one of you fly fisherman can tip off a newbie on the difference between dry and wet flies? Also, what should I be using here in Arkansas during the summer?…….any suggestions on what type or color?
What size do you recommend?

What is up with all the Catch and release fishing cry babies? The money that we anglers spend to buy license makes it profitable for the fish & wildlife to stockĀ trout and salmon into our rivers, lakes, and streams. because of human expansion into the natural spawning grounds, all fish would not be able to exist without sportfishermans license funds. So why don’t all you bleeding heart liberals find a more noble and important cause than trying to save a fish from getting a hook in the mouth? In short, would a fish defend you if I snagged a hook in your mouth?
