Mustad 277’s

Sunday, April 25th, 2010
I had a conversation with someone on another board about Mustad 277’s size 32 gold hooks. What would you consider a fair price for these elusive hooks both by the full box or singularly. Then after saying that what would you pay.

tube fly vise

Saturday, April 24th, 2010
alright well i have only been tying flies for like a week. but i am hooked i have tied the wooly bugger, a hare s ear and a pheasant tail and the guy at the fly shop said they looked great, my first ones not so much but now i have them done and love it. i am looking into the future though and i want to tie all my steelhead patterns and some of them are tubes. should i just buy the tube flies from a fly shop or tie my own. so i was wondering what tube fly vise i should buy or what company has a tying vise that will have a exchange thing for a fly tying to a tube fly vise?

thanks,
Deon

craft fur

Friday, April 23rd, 2010
My brothers neighbor who runs a food bank and occasionally helps resupply people who have lost their homes got what he thought was a bunch of fur scraps in a large donation of more useful items. Thinking they were of little use to his clients he asked if I wanted them. When I picked them up I found a big box of craft fur pieces. I have occasionally used it for tying but need ideas for using a lot more. He also has a box full of punch emboidery yarn that may appear in the for sale section soon. Proceeds help buy gas for the van and necessities that he can’t get donated.

Stonefly/hopper wing material

Saturday, April 10th, 2010
While working in the garden, found some landscape fabric at Home Depot that makes real nice stonefly and hopper wings. This stuff has the texture of Tyvek (not the black plastic mesh material), comes in a dark brownish color, cuts easily, doesn’t seem to fray. Can’t remember how much it cost, but I’ve just got scraps left from mulching and have enough to last a long time. A full roll would supply enough material for a plague of locust of Biblical proportions.

Scott

What New Pattern Has You Excited This Year?

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010
I’m just wondering if there is a new patern or patterns that our board members have learned about that really has them fired up to try this year? I’m always looking for new patterns and new tying challenges, so I thought I’d poll our group for new or old flies that excite them.
