Bass fishing on a fly rod?

Bass fishing with Fly rod
Bass fishing on a fly rod? I understand a 6 wt. line would be best, but the type/brand best suited for smallmouth bass and bream fishing? I am also looking for some solid advice on how to rig up a fly rod. Finally, should I fish near the top of the water or go deeper? Because when you think of fly fishing, I always assume that keeping the lure or fly on the top. Also, a bit confusing for me to understand the difference between dry flies and wet, but then again I am a new fly fisherman. ;-)
Thanks for your help Arky Angler.

Online insect library for fly anglers?

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I was thinking about building a website or possibly finding an excising one that has a picture list (close representation) of the natural aquatic insect life of the river systems starting in my own  State. I understand this would be a huge job to input in all the the US river systems, but I was thinking the web site could be open source?

This could be a helpful tool to aid fly anglers? Or is there a website already online?

Imput is valued.

Kevin

The right waders for fly fishing?

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Hey guys, thought this would be a great place to ask a question about the right waders for fly fishing? I am looking for a new pair of waders and need to decide between chest/waist waders. I’ve use chest waders in the past and felt a bit limited on flexibility and that I get too hot. The only downside is I have at times, needed full chest protection.

Do any of you have this same problem and what was your remedy?

Thoughts?

Andy

Arkansas outdoors and a date!

Friday, August 27th, 2010

I clicked the link on this blog a month ago and met a nice women in Arkansas on CupidFish.com. We emailed at first, then it progressed to phone calls and now I have my first date! She mentioned a few times in out conversations that dinner dates are a bit too formal for a first date and why not save the money and do something fun outdoors. Yes, I like this women already, but now I am racking my brain thinking of ideas. The first thing that comes to mind is the run of the mill, bowling, mini-golf, which are fun but played out in my opinion.

She mentioned a couple times that she likes the outdoors and really likes to fish. So my question is do you think fishing and maybe a picnic would be a good date? there would be more than enough time to talk, and plus it would be a distraction so we don’t have to completely focus on each other and possibly make each other more nervous. As mentioned, I also live in Arkansas, so work with me on the fishing thing.

Late summer cabin suggestions?

Thursday, August 26th, 2010
arkansas cabins
My family and I are from St. Louis and looking for a nice peaceful late summer vacation spot with cabin rentals to spend a week long stay for the second week of September. We enjoy the outdoors; fishing, canoeing, hiking,  etc. All are our favorite pasttimes and we’ve heard great things about Lake Quachita but haven’t found anything definite yet. Any suggestions would be great for  somewhere relaxing that’s away from traffic/noise, jet skis, ATV’s, and people that enjoy those activities? Thank you!

The bass just won’t bite

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
Hey all nice to see an ALL Arkansas blog! (Go Hogs) I also live in Arkansas, and not so much a trout anglers, but a bass fisherman. Alright I have a 15  acre pond this is 50% shallow, ranging from 2-3 ft deep, and the other end  is 12-15 ft. deep . Ive caught many of largemouth bass ranging from 6- 8lbs (catch and release) out of this pond every year. Oddly I don’t know whats been going on this summer because I will not get a bite for weeks, and then all of a sudden I will get four or five bites then a a 5 pound bass ? The bass will not bite and then all of a sudden hit like there is no tomorrow? Confusing and odd if you ask me. Suggestions or advice?
Mac
