Hey guys, thought this would be a great place to ask a question about the right waders for fly fishing? I am looking for a new pair of waders and need to decide between chest/waist waders. I’ve use chest waders in the past and felt a bit limited on flexibility and that I get too hot. The only downside is I have at times, needed full chest protection.
Do any of you have this same problem and what was your remedy?
Thoughts?
Andy

I am just getting tired of hauling my fishing gear making multiple trips to carry gear to some of my favorite fishing spots? I also feel I might be missing some great trout fishing areas due to having to lug gear and fishing equipment to prime hard to find/great spots. Would an all in one cart be a good idea to carry your gear?… and looking for suggestions. Finally, I am not as young as I use to be and worried about slipping/falling when hauling gear in remote locations to fish.
Ideas?
Gary

Quick question. Is there a color spinners web source for the different seasons for trout fishing? I’ll be heading out to do some trout fishing this weekend and I was thinking about using salmon eggs and spinners? I’ll be fishing medium fast streams, and the White River. I have always been a bit puzzled on type of spinner used in different times of the year. I am thinking it’s important to know because of fly hatch?
Thanks,
Gordon

Thanks for the email and yes I do have a simple question regarding a good compact fishing rod. I’ll be trout fishing this weekend/summer on small rivers, lakes and ponds, plus going after bass, and trout like I said. I just find a conventional rod to be really awkward to deal with while sitting in a kayak. Any kayak anglers here want to flip a newbie some advice?

Alright, here is where I am at and I appreciate this blog is newbie friendly. I have been hitting the trout fishing hard and due to the summer slow down I am focusing on what I can do better. I find myself nervous and confused after the initial rush of getting the hook set. I’ve read a lot of opinions, but the general opinion is, once the hook set (fish on!) is to not stress the trout too much, leave it in the water if possible but limit the time handling the trout. Then gently push down/rotate the hook so it comes out the same way it went in.
I normally fish from the waters edge of my local creek/pond and fish the deeper end with little to no rocks near the bank when reeling the fish the the bank. Now, I would like to know what exactly I should do when the fish comes to rivers edge? I have heard that one should pick the fish up by the jaw (thumb in mouth) vertically while removing the hook. But I think that this could damage the fishes jaw if it flops around.
What do with the fish when I get it hooked? How should I handle it safely, when I want to get a photo (keeping in mind I am on the shore)? I mainly fish large and smallmouth bass and trout (rainbow and brown).
I use barbless hooks which I consider appropriate for the size fish.
Thanks, Mike

Got a simple question and thanks for the invite. I like to take my kayak out to do some night trout fishing on a local 11 acres well stocked trout lake with plenty of doubles and occasional fish up to 18lbs. The average fish in this lake is around 2lbs. This lake also has top quality rainbow trout and occasional wild brown trout up to 3lbs. My plan (suggestions please) is to use 3 rods with worm or corn? Do you think a carp rig would work? trout pellets?
