Going for trout on the White River
Hello all, and nice to see an Arkansas blog! My family I are heading to the White River in mid September to do some camping and trout fishing. I am gearing up and needed know what size line would be needed and definitely need a good technique for that time of year? We will not be fly fishing and know that trout spook easily there. I was/ am thinking possibly a 4lb test is best but I am open for suggestions? Could any fellow Arkansans want to tip another angler on what to use and not?
We will not be hiring a guide

Fly fishing will be best or 2 or 4lb test on an ultra lite. I fished the White in Arkansas in mid July and it was great! I used Little Cleos and gold spinners with nightcrawlers. I have used some power bait as well, but do much better with live bait. I have never done very well with Salmon Eggs…drift fishing is about the most effective way to go for trout on the white. a magazine article l read a little while back had the author doing very well using rapalas on some of the larger trout.
