I want to get a trolling motor for my Fish Cat XL IR pontoon but I’m not sure exactly what I need. Every time I go to BPS or Cabelas I’m not sure how many different parts I’ll need and I give up. So….

First, the size of the trolling motor – I’m thinking smaller is better on a toon, so a 36lb thrust would do -good? How long should the shaft be?

Also, I think I want the transom mount, sound right?

I need a battery, anything special I need to get to make sure I get since it may be more exposed to water? What battery accessories do I need?

I’m convinced that I need some apparatus that will keep me from having to turn around to activate the motor – looks like a foot pedal is a cheap way to do that. Anybody have any experience w/these or other options?

What other stuff am I forgetting?
