Asian Carp in Wisconsin..
I have been asked by literally hundreds of people on our facebook pages and by other message boards what my opinions are concerning the Asian Carp battle that is going on in Illinois.
These are my opinions:
Since this hits home for me, as I live in Wisconsin and near Port Washington it will be very detrimental to all of our Sportfishing Charters up here. Me and my crew have been watching this unfold for a long time. I actually fish Pro Walleye tournaments (MWC) and one stop is always in Spring Valley, Illinois. Fishing is terrible in that river system. The pollution in that river is terrible and it seems that the asian carp thrive in it!
I have caught several & witnessed these fish first hand and let me tell you, it’s not pretty. When people start getting hurt or killed by them, then it might wake up the government, but then as in invaders from the past, it will be too late…. Imagine getting hit in the head at 40 miles per hour from a 70 pound fish!
Me and my Fishn’ crew believe that these fish are already in Lake Michigan. It’s just going to take a little time for them to make a presence as the lake is so darn big. They are there, but the government won’t tell you that! All they seem to care about is the supposed loss of business from barge traffic. But aren’t considering the loss of revenue from Sportfishing Industry, which is also in the hundreds of Millions of dollars.
Once they establish themselves in Lake Michigan there will be no stopping them, they will continue to move and affect Green Bay, and move to Lake Superior, Erie, & Huron and any tributaries that they go into. So this is everyone’s problem, not just Illinois problem….
It will be bad for everyone as I can see it. We will just have to deal with it, like everything else that has invaded “our” waters.
